Q: How can I stop the pump from alarming after I have set up my TCI protocol?
A: There are three options for setting up a TCI infusion in advance.
Option 1: Program without a syringe loaded.
Option 2: Program with a syringe loaded and use the PAUSE feature.
Option 3: Program with a syringe loaded and set a target of 0.
Video guides as to how to perform each of the three options above are available HERE.
Q: How do I change my TCI concentration target after the infusion has started?
A: Press any of the increment/decrement keys on the pump and the TCI target concentration field will be highlighted.
Enter your new target concentration using the increment/decrement keys and press OK to confirm.
Q: How do I stop the pump from alarming after I have stopped the pump? I just want to see the Ce and Cp values fall.
A: After you have pressed the stop key, press BOTH of the decrement keys at the same time on the pump to set the Cet or Cpt to 0.00 and press OK.
You will see "STOP" flashing along the bottom line of the screen.
The values will continue to fall and the pump will not alarm.
Q: When in TCI mode the double arrow keys change my target in 0.1 increments and the single arrow keys in 0.01 increments. Is there any way to change this to whole numbers for the double keys and 0.1 increments for the single arrow keys?
A: Yes this is possible.
A new version of the Vigilant Master Med drug error reduction software is now available which allows this change. This is Vigilant Software Suite: Vigilant Master Med v2.0.1.3.
This change, however, may require either your local Fresenius Kabi Account Manager or Clinical Support Specialist to create a new data set for you if your devices are not connected to your WiFi network.
Please note that to update your devices they will need to be physically found and updated via a cable connection to a laptop computer.
Due to the work involved, there may be a charge for this service.
If, however, your devices ARE connected to your WiFi network and the Centerium server then an upgrade to your Vigilant Master Med drug error reduction software may be possible.
This update would allow your Pharmacist to create a new customised TCI protocol for you and send it wirelessly to your devices.
Please note that the purchase of the new version of Vigilant Master Med may be required.
If in doubt please contact your local Fresenius Kabi Account Manager who can clarify your situation or provide a quote for any required software or manual updates of devices.
Q: The bolus key is disabled in TCI mode. How do I give a bolus?
A: When running in TCI mode none of the TCI algorithms allows the user to give a bolus using the bolus key.
In certain clinical scenarios, a bolus may be required.
To achieve this a MANUAL bolus can be given on the Agilia SP TIVA.
This is done by pressing down the blue disengagement lever, pushing the plunger driver to deliver your required bolus dose, then releasing the disengagement lever.
The Agilia SP TIVA will automatically calculate the volume of the bolus given, show this on the screen, and automatically adjust the TCI rate and calculated plasma and effect-site concentrations to incorporate this additional volume.
This manual bolus volume will also be added to the total volume infused.
The alternative way to achieve a bolus is to increase your target plasma or effect concentration however this may achieve your bolus over a longer duration compared to a manual bolus.
A video example of this can be found HERE.
